Ethan Shaw and his mother were on their way to have New Year's Eve dinner at his girlfriend's house when his girlfriend received a call from her childhood friend. She left Ethan Shaw and his mother by the roadside, which led to Ethan's mother suffering from frostbite and a heart attack, ultimately causing her death. After the tragedy, Ethan Shaw broke up with his girlfriend Chloe Mourne. But Chloe mistakenly thought Ethan was just unhappy and informed him about an engagement banquet planned for seven days later. Unbeknownst to her, that day was actually when Ethan planned to start his journey around the world with his mother's ashes.
